At Trojan Energy, we’re here to help local authorities deliver the EV charging networks their communities need. Our goal is to do that reliably, affordably, and with a focus on real-world outcomes. Our in-house engineering team is at the heart of how we do that.

When you control the design, development, and manufacturing in-house, you can control the results, and that’s exactly what we offer our local authority partners. This full ownership allows for seamless integration between hardware, software, and firmware, encouraging smart, multidisciplinary solutions that meet the needs of local authorities and their communities.

It means we stay accountable, move faster, and stay focused on what matters most: delivering solutions that work.

We solve problems faster, so you don’t have to

We’ve built an engineering process designed for agility. So, when projects face challenges, we don’t need to wait on external partners or go through layers of approval – our engineers know every detail of our system and can move quickly to adapt designs, solve problems, and keep things on track.

Whether the idea starts as a sketch, a technical discussion, or a suggestion from a partner, our team can quickly develop concepts using computer-aided design (CAD), rendering, and analysis tools. We can then manufacture proof-of-concept and working prototypes in our dedicated product development lab, using tools like 3D printing and laser cutting to create the necessary parts.

For local authorities, this means faster solutions, fewer delays, and the reassurance that they’re working with a partner who’s fully accountable and ready to adapt as needs evolve.

Engineering that delivers more for less

Maximising function while minimising costs – it’s central to how we approach design. Having design in-house means we can constantly seek ways to improve, optimising not just for price but for performance, reliability, and ease of manufacture.

As our production has grown, we shifted to higher-volume manufacturing methods like casting, moulding, and forming. But we didn’t stop at simply substituting the process; we redesigned components to suit the new methods, reducing the number of parts and combining functions wherever possible.

Our in-ground enclosure, for instance, went from a 14-part welded assembly to a two-part die-cast unit, reducing manufacturing costs by 66% while improving performance.

This kind of efficiency helps local authorities stretch their budgets further and deliver more charging points where they’re needed.

Innovation that’s grounded in real needs

At Trojan Energy, innovation isn’t just about the next big idea, it’s about meaningful improvements that make a real difference. Whether those ideas come from our operations, technical teams, vendors, customers, or local authority partners, we can act on them quickly.

With in-house design and prototyping capabilities, we can explore new concepts, test them, and refine them into practical solutions. Not every idea makes it to manufacturing, and part of our strength is knowing when to pivot and redirect efforts toward the most valuable opportunities.

Local authorities benefit from a partner who’s always looking ahead, refining products, and innovating in ways that serve their specific needs.

Reliability is built in, not bolted on

We carry out all qualification and lifecycle testing internally, ensuring our systems are robust, resilient, and ready to perform over the long term. Testing isn’t just about ticking boxes, it’s a chance to identify potential weaknesses, address them early, and continuously improve the product.

We’re giving local authorities confidence: confidence that the infrastructure they install today will keep performing for years to come, with lower maintenance costs and fewer headaches down the line.

Why in-house matters for Local Authorities

In-house engineering isn’t just a feature of how we work; it’s the foundation of the value we deliver. It enables us to respond faster, drive down costs, innovate meaningfully, and deliver reliable solutions that work in the real world.

When Local Authorities partner with Trojan Energy, they’re not just buying EV charging hardware; they’re working with a team that’s fully committed to delivering the outcomes their communities need.
